Members of the Newcastle and Hunter Community who wish to show support for survivors of abuse by church personnel will stand together this Tuesday night 30th November at the inaugural ‘Silence Against Silence’ ceremony, which marks the end of Forget-Me-Knot month – a national awareness campaign for survivors of child abuse.
More than 100 community members are expected to attend the peaceful demonstration of unity and support, which will include participants lighting candles and signing a book of hope.
Following a brief introduction by Survivors Australia Founder, Nikki Wells, participants will stand in silence for one hour to acknowledge the courage survivors exhibit by coming forward with their stories.
Silence Against Silence will be a moving sight of solidarity and compassion, which the organisers are planning on becoming an annual event around the country, and eventually the world.
Members of the public and media are welcome to attend.
It is anticipated the ceremony will become an annual event held on the 30th November each year.
