Our CEO is taking part in a sponsored bike ride up Mount Ventoux in France!
Our founder and rather crazy Chief Executive is planning a sponsored bike ride with four of his club mates. They are going to ride to the top of Mont Ventoux in France THREE times to raise money for NAPAC. There are three different roads that ascend this vicious climb in the Massive Central, infamous for where Tom Simpson died during the Tour de France in 1967.
They need a vehicle to get them there. Do you know anyone – or perhaps a business – that would lend them a vehicle for a week at the beginning of September? It would need to be able to accommodate 5 hairy bikers plus racing bikes. It’s a tall order but if I was to say that model Jerry Hall will be seeing us off (what a great photo opportunity) maybe someone would be interested!
If you can help – or know someone who might - please get in touch with Pete. His email is peter@napac.org.uk.

Aisha Ali founder of Living from The Heart will lead individuals and couples in learning to create more satisfying relationships. Her work is based on exploring the process of relationships as a sacred path. Far from being an obstacle to our personal and spiritual development, relationships can be a catalyst for discovering our true essence. When we "fall in love" our deepest need to be seen and understood is awoken. You can learn to understand love's cycles of giving and receiving and improve your relationship dynamics. The closer we come to another, the better we come to know ourselves. Aliveness emerges from a deep connection with yourself and the world around us.

Book Release- Silent No More by Kate Swift and R.S.0.S.A
About: This is not ‘just’ a book however; this is a powerful, moving and painfully honest look at surviving childhood sexual abuse. This book is about a group of survivors and those who support them coming together to be a voice for the voiceless…to shed more light on what it takes to survive…and perhaps most importantly of all to show that you can go on to achieve, inspire, enrich not only your life but others around you too. This book was on my heart because I often see amazing pieces of art and writing by others. I wanted them to have a platform on which to share their talent but also their voice. As children we lived in our silent, individual abusive situations. As adults we now come together and are a voice not just for ourselves but for the future generations to learn from. We have been mindful to share both light and shade within the pages of our book. We hope others will benefit from the experiences we have shared, our healing tips and inner most thoughts.
About the Author
R.S.O.S.A is an online community of support. It began early in 2010 by Kate Swift who first made a website to reach out to survivors of sexual abuse. Kate went on to begin the online group. ‘Reaching Survivors of Sexual Abuse’ is a survivor to survivor support group. It offers friendship, support and guidance to all its members. In its first year R.S.O.S.A has reached in excess of 500 members. Members are survivors, those who work in the field and also campaigners.

PODS-WORKSHOP 26th November 2011
On Saturday 26 November 2011, PODS (Partners of Dissociative Survivors) – will be running its ‘Living with Dissociation’ workshop in Sutton Coldfield, near Birmingham. This will be the eighth time this introductory workshop (‘PODS Day 1’) has been run in different towns and cities around England over the last 12 months. Every workshop has been very well received and has been attended by a wide range of people – survivors, partners/supporters, counsellors/psychotherapists, Rape Crisis volunteers, NHS staff, and many others who work with or support survivors of childhood trauma and abuse.
- · Training is by Carolyn Spring (a DID survivor of organised abuse, who is a freelance writer and trainer) and her husband Rob (also currently a trainee counsellor)
- · Just £45.00 per person (or £75.00 for a couple) – booking by cheque, online or by invoice (please contact us if required)
- · CPD certificates (6 hours) and extensive delegate handout packs and resources are provided
- · The workshop contains no details of historic abuse – it aims to be a ‘safe’ and gentle day, suitable for survivors, whilst being equally relevant and informative for professionals
- · Includes an open meeting at 4.00 pm (a chance for DID survivors and supporters to meet, chat and support each other), and a Q&A for professionals with Carolyn
Feedback from previous delegates includes:
- · “It was an excellent day. Carolyn was an excellent speaker.”
- · “Refreshing to hear about DID from a survivor’s perspective. Mix of theory and experience made the information real.”
- · “It was helpful to know that my experiences are normal, and I’m not alone”
- · “Thank you for a very informative day, leaving me wanting to know more.”
- · “Excellent day. Very easy to listen to speakers. Candid presentations of personal experiences.”
This is the last time this workshop will be run this year. We plan to run it again twice next year (in Huntingdon and possible somewhere else). However next year we are focussing on running our ‘Day 2’ and ‘Day 3’ workshops which will explore other important issues in living and working with dissociation and DID.

Stars Sing Out Against Violation of Men
Where:- Cadogan Hall, London SW31X 9DQ
When: 7pm on Sunday the 22nd May
More info: Lesley Garrett, Marc Almond, David McAlmont, Lea DeLaria, Ian Shaw and Hannah Waddingham will join the London Gay Men’s Chorus in an evening of song celebrating SurvivorsUK and their clients – men who have been sexually violated.
“Songs For SurvivorsUK” marks the 25th anniversary of this pioneering organisation that provides a national helpline and London based counselling services to men who have experienced sexual violation at any time in their lives. The charity also assists the partners and carers of these men and provides links and signposting to services around the country.
James Watson, SurvivorsUK Chair of Trustees says:
“This is the first time artists of this calibre have come together to support sexually violated men. I am immensely grateful to these outstanding performers for their generosity and their willingness to be associated with this difficult cause. I hope that this concert will encourage people to talk more about the reality of male sexual violation and how as a society we care for these men.”
Adult male sexual assault and the abuse of male children continue to be a taboo subject in our society; in reality there are more than 10,000 rapes of men every year and over 2 million adult men living with the legacy of childhood abuse. Yet the recent Mayor of London funding for rape crisis centres provided less than 5% support for men. And male victims of sexual crime do not feature at all in the language of the Government or in their announced plans for sexual violation service funding.

Invisible Boys and Men Conference
Where: The University of Bradford, John Stanley Bell Theatre, D Floor, Richmond Building.
When: 10th June 2011
More info: This conference will look in detail at the often hidden issue of crimes of sexual violence and abuse committed against boys and men. The Coalition Government, thankfully,
recently published its strategy for women and girls who have experienced any form of
interpersonal violence. Currently, neither central government, nor any local government
authority, including the NHS in West Yorkshire, has carried out any assessments into the
support needs of non-offending boys or men in West Yorkshire, many of whom will have
experienced a range of sexual crime during their lifespan. These are crimes which are often
hard for them to disclose, given the powerful social and cultural forces which silence such
disclosure. Boys and men can’t be victims in our culture. Sadly the research evidences
millions who live with such silenced experience and the outcomes from that silencing are
felt across society.
